South of Anchorage Alaska along the Seward Highway, you take a turn east towards Whittier, which requires the use of an Alaska Railroad tunnel, the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, through Maynard Mountain.
Driving on the train tracks.
This small coastal town on the edge of towering mountains and colossal glaciers is the setting for Whittier Glacier Tour in Prince William Sound Alaska.
At Whittier we climb aboard the ship Emerald Sea for a tour of the multiple glaciers and sea life of Blackstone Bay, part of Prince William Sound, on a cruise provided by Major Marine Tours.
There are many glaciers like the massive Blackstone and Beloit in Blackstone Bay. The ship parks at several of the glaciers to allow you to take in the full experience like the rife shot sounds of the glacier calving and the 1700 foot towering heights.
Carbonated ice releases pops and bubbles as it strikes the ship.
The ship maintains a fishing claim along the route
and checks it’s catch on each trip.
Enjoying Whittier's liquid sunshine.
A glacier soon to calf.
